About Mary
My name is Mary Kamara, and I'll be your child's tutor! I am so excited to get to know you and your child throughout the year! I wanted to start by allowing you to learn a little more about me. I currently attend Bowie State University, majoring in Early Childhood Education/Special Education. I have been working with children since my 10th grade year in high school, where I started the Child Development Program. I graduated high school with my high school diploma, along with a certification to work in child care centers with children ages 3-5. I've interned at elementary schools with students ranging from grades PreK-5. I am currently a paraprofessional educator working with students who have special needs and a substitute teacher.

Teaching is my passion. I find it very interesting how children learn. My teaching philosophy is that every child should be introduced to the tools they need to establish their own learning style. Every child learns different, and my goal is to help every child receive the knowledge they need in a way they can better learn it and best understand it. I strive to create a space for students to explore their own learning styles, then I'm there to help develop their interests and guide their absorption of the materials. I would describe my teaching style as coaching. I do not prefer one teaching method, or one way of interacting with the students in the classroom environment. I use different forms of learning from visual, to hands-on activities and using examples because in my opinion, each child is different, as well as each lesson and grade level, and a good teacher should always adjust their teaching to their audience, the level of discipline in the class, the difficulty of the lesson, and so on. Instead of offering answers to my students, I try to ask the right questions, and with the help of demonstration group activities they should find the answers.
