About Helen
I strive to support my students by building strong relationships with them. I have been teaching in a classroom as a chemistry and biology teacher for over 4 years in New Jersey and Philadelphia. Prior to being a high school classroom teacher I was a teaching assistant in university settings and helped tutor undergraduates in chemistry, biology, and biochemistry. I am a former biophysical chemist doing research in cancer biology and protein structure and function. I strive to help students be true owners of knowledge and understanding.

I believe that learning can only come after a strong relationship. In group settings I use student-centered group learning environments to help students construct their own understanding at great depth. Individually I use analogies, examples, scaffolding, and a variety of perspectives to help students gain greater understanding of content.
