About Enya

I was a student much longer than I have been a teacher. In fact, I went straight into teaching after University. I think this transition was very beneficial because I remember what it was like to be a student which makes it easy to relate to my students learning needs. Students want to be engaged in different ways. It is also much easier to learn a subject when the person teaching is enthusiastic about the lessons. I've taught at a community college for 3 years. I've taught 7 different subjects (introduction to anthropology, world history, introduction to Africa, current affairs, drama, English writing and western history) and most classes had 25-30 students in them. Humanity subjects help us understand the world we live in today. The decisions past humans made inevitably effects our place in society today. I'm interested in students understanding how these studies relates to them in an effort to make the subject more enjoyable.

About the lesson

I teach students to be critical independent thinkers. Once students master the art of learning, they will have the confidence to explore any concept in the humanities through employing appropriate research strategies. Students learn through documentaries, critical reading exercises, short simple research projects and discussions. My lessons usually consist of, deconstruction of readings, documentary analysis and discussions. I love when a student challenges my ideas, this means they are engaged and learning. In this subject area students learn the difference between believing and knowing something as they aquire the skill of research. Humanities is the story of humans, these lessons will help students understand the world we live in today.
