About Victor
Hello, I'm Victor Silas, a passionate Mathematics tutor and Bachelor of Education (Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy) student at UNISA. My journey into teaching has been shaped by both academic ambition and real-life experience.
I initially studied BSc in Mathematical Statistics at the University of Johannesburg. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete my studies due to financial exclusion. After spending several years in the workforce across administration, customer service, and financial services, I discovered my passion for facilitation. Working with people, guiding them through new concepts, and seeing them grow reignited my love for education. It made me realise that helping others learn and succeed is the most fulfilling work I have ever done.
As a tutor, I believe every learner has the potential to excel in Mathematics when they receive patient, personalised support. My teaching style focuses on building genuine understanding rather than memorisation. I break complex concepts into simple, logical steps and encourage learners to ask questions, think critically, and develop confidence in their own abilities.
I teach Grades 4–12 following both the CAPS and IEB curricula and can provide lessons in English, isiZulu, and Sesotho. Every lesson is tailored to the learner's needs and includes clear explanations, worked examples, guided practice, and exam-focused problem-solving to ensure steady improvement.
Whether you're struggling with Mathematics, preparing for an important test or exam, or aiming to achieve top marks, I am committed to helping you reach your goals. I believe every student can succeed in Mathematics with the right guidance, patience, and encouragement. My lessons are interactive, learner-centred, and tailored to each student's pace and goals. I simplify complex concepts using practical examples and step-by-step explanations to build confidence and understanding rather than memorisation.
I teach in English and can also assist students in isiZulu and Sesotho where needed to improve comprehension.
A typical lesson includes a review of previous work, explanation of new concepts, guided practice, problem-solving, and exam-style questions to reinforce learning. I provide constructive feedback and focus on strengthening areas where students need the most support.
My lessons are suitable for Grade 4–12 learners following the CAPS or IEB curriculum, as well as students preparing for tests, examinations, or needing extra support to improve their Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy results.
