About Carol

With degrees from the world's top music schools, over 10 years of teaching music, and performances across 3 continents, I have the experience to get you results. I seamlessly integrate musicianship, music theory, history, ear training, art appreciation into every lesson.

I hold degrees from the Royal Conservatory of Music (ARCT in Piano Performance, First Class Honors with Distinction), the Eastman School of Music (Bachelor of Music, Honors and Double Major in Piano Performance and Music Theory), and the Université de Montréal (Master of Music in Piano Performance, Artist Diploma in Piano Performance), where I am also currently a doctoral candidate.

I am also currently Lecturer at Beijing Normal University - Hong Kong Baptist University United International College.

About the lesson

YOUNG LEARNERS
I've had so many young students coming in saying "I hate music" and after just a month, blossoming into avid learners who can't stop practicing. My student-centered style sparks curiosity and love of learning.

TEEN/ADULT LEARNERS
I've also had teen/adult students who are motivated and understand the material but have "frozen fingers." I combine technique with simplified pop/classical tunes, so that you can play something besides nursery songs at your next dinner party.

ADVANCED LEARNERS
If you are an advanced musician, I can help you achieve your desired results at your next recital, audition, or exam. Moreover, I will teach you how to listen so that you will be able to become your own teacher. My students routinely score well at local competitions and RCM examinations.

Lessons available in English, French, Chinese.

Perfect! I've been taking lessons for 6 months now, and can only say good things about my experience. Carol quickly identifies bad habits and offers ways to correct them before they settle; She often advises on time period and/or composer specific interpretations of the pieces in your repertoire, which is always incredibly insightful and helpful. She writes notes to help with the practice out of lessons and she's always reasonably easy to reach if you've hit a roadblock or have a question.

Overall, my experience with Carol has been phenomenal, and I cannot recommend lessons with her enough.

Perfect! I’ve been taking lessons from Carol for a few months and it’s been absolutely wonderful. She’s incredibly passionate, kind, and knowledgeable, and I look forward all week to each lesson. Not only has my playing improved dramatically, but I appreciate music on a whole other level because of her. Couldn’t ask for more from a teacher!

Perfect! As an adult learner with no formal training before this, Carol has been amazing at gauging my current knowledge picked up along the way and bolstering both the theory and practical side alike. She keeps the classes very engaging and I enjoy the lessons thoroughly. Given this old student hope again:) recommend her without any hesitation.

As a music teacher myself, Carol is a peer whom I highly respect. She not only has an encyclopedic knowledge (both general and music-specific) and total command of the piano, but she is also passionate about teaching to which her years of experience testify. In each lesson, she is able to lead her students to think outside the box and make creative and insightful connections. Regardless of where one might be in his/her studies, I highly recommend to anyone who wishes to take music lessons to do so with Carol.
