I bring a strong academic foundation, a passion for teaching, and a deep respect for each student’s individual learning journey. With advanced degrees in education and a background in academic advising and peer mentorship, I’ve had the privilege of supporting learners at many different stages—from high school students preparing for college to adults returning to the classroom. What you can expect from me is a thoughtful, student-centered approach grounded in clear communication, structure, and adaptability. I prioritize creating a supportive space where students feel confident exploring new ideas, asking questions, and building real understanding. No matter your starting point, my goal is to help you make steady, meaningful progress—and to enjoy the process of learning along the way.

English

Hi, I’m Matt. I’ve been passionate about helping others learn for as long as I can remember. I take a student-centered approach to tutoring, which means I focus on how you learn best. Whether you’re a visual, auditory, or hands-on learner—or somewhere in between—I use flexible methods to match your style. I believe in combining structure with creativity, and I use a variety of techniques, from scaffolding complex ideas to breaking down concepts into real-life examples that stick.

A Typical Lesson Plan

Each session is tailored to your goals. We start with a quick check-in to set focus and priorities, followed by a review of previous material or assignments. Then we dive into the main lesson, which might include guided problem-solving, close reading and analysis, practice tests, or concept mapping—depending on the subject. Before wrapping up, we recap key takeaways, identify what still feels unclear, and create a short action plan to stay on track between sessions.

What Sets Me Apart

I don’t just aim to help students get the right answers—I want you to feel ownership over your learning. With experience tutoring peers in College and mentoring younger students through programs like Upward Bound, I’ve seen how confidence grows when learning is both personalized and empowering. I also bring a strong background in education, with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in the field, as well as certifications in IT support and a lifelong love of history, writing, and analytical thinking.

Who I Teach

I work best with older high school students, college students, and adult learners—especially those returning to education or pursuing new career goals. Whether you’re prepping for the SAT, polishing college essays, diving into economics or political science, or just want to sharpen your math or writing skills, I’ll work with you to build a strategy that fits your needs, interests, and strengths—and keeps you motivated along the way.
