About Josh
I believe that student/teacher rapport is vital in teaching because a student must trust their teacher in order to learn.
I teach mature teenagers and adults alike. No matter what I teach, I will use a wide variety of subjects to teach it.
I am English, currently residing in the highlands of Scotland and have a diverse work portfolio, not just within teaching.
I have taught a variety of students in a variety of environments. Cultural background and psychological uniqueness has never been an issue in the past.
The first session I would consider to be more of a 2 (or more) way interview. I would welcome prospective students to have parents, spouses or other present so as to best establish whether we can work together in a fruitful and studious relationship.
Due to my remote location, lessons will be online. However further down the line, a means of travel and accommodation could be negotiated to allow for more intensive, face to face sessions. whether at my house or at yours.

I take a "big picture" approach to learning and teaching.
I strongly believe in the wholistic nature of study, in the need for contextualisation and keeping things in perspective.
This means that whatever we are discussing, we will go into some nitty gritty details, as well as zoom out and understand where this discussion lies within the broader subject, and where pertinent, what relevance or interaction this may have in other subject areas.
In combination, I will use a personable approach to convey this knowledge.
By striking up a rapport with the student, I aim build a trusting relationship in order to increase memory retention and encourage a practical and applicable knowledge of the subject. This should allow a student not just to regurgitate information but to internalise it, becoming able to readily apply what they have learnt to their past experiences and future lives.
**Honesty disclaimer**
This method is not specifically geared towards passing conventional exams, though the "easy applicability of the subject" and "memory retention through rapport" are useful here.
Rather this method is designed to prepare and immerse the student in the subject, as well as the world of intellectual and academic thinking in general.
**Higher Education**
Although I do not claim expertise in all academic subjects, I have had great success in engaging with pre and post-doc students, predominantly within the broadest realm of social sciences. Through critical and productive discussions we can draw out clarity from obfuscated texts and broaden or focus the scope of hypotheses using intersectional and interdisciplinary methodology, drawing on a wide range of disciplines.

Prices
My prices are currently very low to get the ball rolling after my move to Scotland.
If you begin at this rate, the rate will remain the same until a negotiated review after 1 year from our first session.
Travel
I am happy to travel to teach whether at your house or anywhere deemed appropriate.
If within the Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling or Loch Lomond regions, travel fees of UP TO £30 will apply.
Farther afield or two or more days can be arranged with planning. This can include trips abroad.
Prices to be discussed but all travel and accommodation costs must be covered.
I would welcome and perhaps even encourage "in-house" accommodation to further improve the student/teacher relationship. Additionally this can save on accommodation and food costs.
**please note: parent or equivalent responsible adult MUST be within the vicinity when dealing with minors.
