About Rebeca

I'm a Spanish native speaker and an English screenwriter, who loves to learn about people's unique stories; I want to empower people to express who they truly are in such a poetic, often challenging language like Spanish. I:

-Have spent 17 years living in Venezuela, completely immersed in both academic and conversational Spanish.
-Have studied Spanish and English Grammar for 12 years.
-Acquainted with dialects such as Mexican, Argentinan, and Columbian from a young age.
-Learned English at age 3, and since then studied on a heavy bilingual curriculum until I graduated High School.
-Have experience mentoring classmates in that same fast passed curriculum with disciplines such as note-taking, public speaking presentations, test preparation and essay writing.
-I have experience dealing with children ages 3 - 7 in an all Spanish Summer Camp.
-Know how to decode Latin (base of all romance languages, including Spanish).
-Graduated with an honors degree in Writing for Film and Television (Social communication).

No matter your age or experience level, I am here with an open mind and heart to help you succeed with your language goals. Choose a personified learning experience, with an approachable person and say goodbye to feeling lost and disregarded in big classrooms!

About the lesson

First, I have an interview with the students in which we discuss their experience level and their needs. Depending on that, I search for a textbook that fits or helps high school/University students work with their existing one. I encourage students to buy it for themselves but we can work with photocopies at the student's expense.

Second, the student and I discuss their commitment, any challenges and set up a SMART deadline: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. Examples of these are a test, a networking event, a fluent casual conversation with a particular person or travel basics.

Third, we discuss your interests and find out together how is the best way for you to learn. Do you like listening to things over and over again until they stick? Do you like association by visually taking in the information? Do you learn better by doing physical activities?

Lastly, we design out session to best fit your lifestyle. I recommend the sessions to be at least 45 minutes, and to have no more than 2 subjects (Spelling, Grammar, Conversation, Communication Skills, Writing) per session, but I can adapt if necessary.

I like to assign homework. Examples of some are
- 5-10 spelling words to be tested next week (Academic Spanish).
- Bringing your favorite book and we'll translate a paragraph together (Basic Spanish).
-Bring a topic of interest to present to me (Business Spanish)
