About Joseph

I’m Joseph, an Australian Pharmacology student from UNSW Sydney, spending this term studying on exchange at the University of Exeter. Pharmacology sits right where chemistry meets the human body, so I spend my days applying organic chemistry and biochemistry to how medicines work. That’s what made chemistry click for me, and it’s the perspective I bring to every lesson.

Outside of uni, I’m a national-level open water swimmer in Australia. Years of early mornings and structured training have taught me that steady, consistent work beats last-minute cramming, and that’s the approach I take with my students too.

I want to teach because I know how it feels when chemistry seems like a wall of facts and equations. Once someone breaks it down properly, it becomes logical and even enjoyable. I’d love to help you get to that point.

About the lesson

As a pharmacology student, chemistry is at the core of my degree, and I use organic chemistry and biochemistry every week.

Who it’s for: All levels, from GCSE and A level through to university students tackling organic chemistry or biochemistry.

How I teach: My strength is making complicated ideas simple. Especially in Chemistry, you might find yourself overwhelmed!
I’m from Australia, so I work from what you’re actually being taught: bring your syllabus points, topic list or class notes, and I’ll break each concept down to its foundations, then build your understanding back up step by step until it clicks. I focus on why things work rather than memorising, which is what gets you through the harder questions. We’ll then practise with past paper questions so you know exactly how marks are awarded.

Lessons: 60 minutes, online or in person around Exeter. Longer lessons possible if wanted.

I’m patient, friendly and happy to explain things as many times as it takes. Book a first lesson and let’s make chemistry make sense.
