About Marlie
Hi! I’m Marlie, and I’m passionate about helping students feel more confident in their ability to learn. I believe that every student is capable of succeeding when they have the right support, encouragement, and teaching approach.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and currently work as a middle and high school science teacher, where I teach students across multiple grade levels. My classroom experience has given me the opportunity to work with students with a wide variety of learning styles, strengths, and academic needs.
My background in psychology and education has shaped the way I approach tutoring. I understand that academic struggles can sometimes come with frustration, anxiety, or a lack of confidence. I strive to create a tutoring environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace.
I tutor Math, English, and Science, with experience across all grade levels, K-12. I am patient, encouraging, and genuinely enjoy finding different ways to explain a concept until it finally clicks.
My goal is not just to help students finish an assignment or prepare for a test. I want to help them develop the skills, confidence, and independence they can carry with them into future classes.
I would love the opportunity to get to know you or your student and work together toward their academic goals!

I believe that every student learns differently, so my tutoring approach is personalized, supportive, and focused on building confidence. Rather than simply giving students the answers, I help them understand why something works and give them the tools to solve similar problems independently.
My Teaching Method & Techniques
I break challenging concepts into smaller, manageable steps and adjust my approach based on each student's learning style, strengths, and areas for growth. Depending on the subject and student, lessons may include:
Step-by-step explanations and examples
Guided practice followed by independent practice
Visuals, diagrams, and real-world examples
Practice problems and review questions
Reading comprehension and writing strategies
Study skills and test-taking strategies
Homework and assignment support
Frequent check-ins to make sure the student understands before moving on
I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is to create a positive environment where students can build both academic skills and confidence.
What a Typical Lesson Looks Like
Each lesson is tailored to the student's needs, but we will generally begin with a quick check-in or review of previous material. From there, we'll identify the skill or concept we're working on and I'll provide a clear explanation or demonstration. We'll then work through examples together before the student practices independently with my support.
We'll finish by reviewing what the student learned, addressing any remaining questions, and identifying what they should continue practicing.
What Sets Me Apart
As an educator, I understand that struggling with a subject doesn't mean a student isn't capable of learning it. Sometimes students simply need information explained in a different way or need the opportunity to practice in a supportive environment.
I bring a patient, encouraging, and non-judgmental approach to tutoring. I focus not only on helping students improve their grades, but also on helping them become more confident and independent learners.
Who My Lessons Are For
I primarily work with middle and high school students, including students who need additional academic support, are preparing for tests, want help with homework and assignments, or simply want to strengthen their skills.
I offer tutoring in:
Science: General Science, Biology, Chemistry
Math: Elementary and Middle School Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra
English: Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Writing, Essay Writing, Spelling, and Study Skills
Whether your student is struggling with a particular concept, trying to catch up, preparing for an upcoming assessment, or looking to get ahead, lessons can be adapted to meet them exactly where they are.
