About Ingrid

Hello, I'm Ingrid!

I’m a native Afrikaans speaker and an experienced professional with more than 20 years of experience in management, communication, training and people development. For many years, I trained and supported adults in the workplace, helping them build skills, communicate effectively and grow in confidence. Today, I bring that same experience and approach to personalised Afrikaans tutoring.

My lessons are structured, supportive and tailored to the individual learner. I work with school learners who need help with Afrikaans, exam preparation, grammar, vocabulary and comprehension, as well as adults who want to improve their conversational Afrikaans or communicate more confidently in everyday and professional situations.

I believe learning a language should be more than memorising rules. My goal is to help learners understand why the language works the way it does, and then give them the confidence to use it. I use clear explanations, practical examples, guided conversation and activities designed around each learner's needs.

For school learners, I focus on building both understanding and exam confidence. For adults, lessons can be adapted to their goals — from everyday conversation and grammar to more thoughtful discussions and practical Afrikaans for real-life situations.

My teaching style is calm, encouraging and structured. I want my students to feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and trying again, because that is where real learning happens.

I’m also a creative person who enjoys drawing and painting, and I bring that creativity into my lesson design where it adds value. But most importantly, I want every lesson to have a purpose: to help the learner understand more, communicate better and feel more confident than they did before the lesson.

About the lesson

Afrikaans that makes sense — not just Afrikaans to memorise!

My lessons are personalised, structured and designed around the learner’s specific goals. I believe that understanding the why behind Afrikaans makes it much easier to remember and use the language confidently.

For school learners, lessons can focus on grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, sentence structure, writing and exam preparation. I break difficult concepts into manageable steps and use practical examples and guided exercises to help learners apply what they have learned.

For adult learners, lessons can be tailored to conversational Afrikaans, grammar, vocabulary, workplace communication or simply becoming more comfortable using the language in real-life situations. I also enjoy using thought-provoking topics and discussions to help adults develop Afrikaans while thinking, expressing opinions and exploring the language in a meaningful way.

My teaching style is calm, supportive and encouraging, but I also believe in gently challenging learners to think for themselves. Lessons are not simply about getting the correct answer — they are about understanding how to get there.

Every lesson has a purpose, and every learner gets an approach suited to their level, goals and learning style.

My aim is simple: to help you understand Afrikaans, use it with confidence, and eventually find that it comes more naturally.
