About Me

I’m a recent BFA Painting graduate from the University of North Carolina Asheville, now based in New York City. I was recently awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant for figurative painting, and I continue to paint regularly, with a particular passion for oil painting, the figure, and plein air work.

I’ve exhibited my work in numerous shows and have taken on a variety of creative projects, including writing, composing, and fully designing a theatrical production with large-scale painted backdrops.

My education taught me not only painting techniques, but how to approach critique positively, organize a creative process, and develop an idea from beginning to end. As a teacher, I’m patient and encouraging, and I focus on helping students develop their own eye and artistic voice rather than simply following instructions.

About the lesson

Painting Lessons Tailored to You

Whether you’re completely new to painting or already have some experience, my lessons are designed around your individual goals, interests, and experience level. I have been painting for over six years and hold a BFA in Painting, with a particular passion for oil painting, figure painting, and plein air work.

Lessons can cover a range of skills including observation, drawing, measuring, color mixing, composition, and building forms from simple shapes. Depending on where you are in your development, I can provide exercises that help strengthen your understanding of these fundamentals while also allowing you to explore the subjects and techniques that interest you most.

A major focus of my teaching is learning how to see. Painting isn’t just about knowing which brush or color to use—it’s about learning to observe proportions, relationships, light, color, shapes, and composition. I want to help you develop a more trained eye so that you can make confident decisions for yourself as an artist.

I’m a patient and encouraging teacher, and I understand that painting can be frustrating, especially when the result doesn’t immediately match what you imagined. Unlike an online tutorial, you’ll have someone there with you to help you work through those difficult moments, identify what’s not working, and guide you toward a solution.

My goal is for you to leave each lesson not only having learned something new, but feeling excited to keep painting and continue developing your own artistic voice.
