About Turner
I’m a professional Petroleum Engineer with extensive real-world experience applying statistics in high-stakes energy projects, now dedicated to helping students master Statistics with confidence and clarity.
My Teaching Methodology
I use a "Real-World → Formula → Practice" approach—starting with practical examples from engineering (like oil & gas data analysis), then breaking down formulas in plain language, and finally working through problems from easy to challenging. Every lesson uses shared screen + digital whiteboard for visual diagrams, helping you "see" the data instead of just memorizing rules.
Typical 60-Minute Lesson Plan
- 5 minutes: Set goals + quick knowledge check
- 15 minutes: Explain concepts with real engineering examples
- 25 minutes: Solve problems together—I guide your thinking step-by-step
- 10 minutes: Create a 1-page "cheat sheet" + assign targeted homework
- 5 minutes: Review progress + plan next session
# What Sets Me Apart
My Oil & Gas industry experience means I teach not just "how" but "why" formulas matter in million-dollar decisions. I am in Markham now, I align with Toronto university curricula and offer bilingual English-Vietnamese support. Past students typically improve 1–2 letter grades in 4–6 weeks through structured, confidence-building sessions.
Ideal Students
- High school: Grade 11/12 Data Management (MDM4U), Math of Data
- College/University: Intro/Business/Engineering Statistics
- Professionals: Data analysis refreshers
- Perfect for engineering, business, or health science students tackling probability, hypothesis testing, or regression.
You won’t just understand Statistics—you’ll confidently apply it to real problems.

As a statistics tutor with an engineering background, I focus on making abstract ideas concrete through real-world examples, visual explanations, and lots of guided practice. In each lesson, we start by clarifying your goals and quickly diagnosing which concepts are blocking you (for example probability, distributions, or hypothesis tests). Then I explain the topic in simple language, work through a few examples step by step on a shared screen/whiteboard, and let you solve similar problems while I coach you through your thinking. We finish by summarizing the key ideas in a short “cheat sheet” and agreeing on a small set of practice questions so you know exactly what to do before the next session.
What sets me apart is my mix of industry and academic experience: I have used statistics and data analysis to solve real engineering and business problems, so I can show you not just the formulas but why they matter and how to check if an answer makes sense. I am patient, structured, and I encourage questions, because many students struggle not with intelligence but with confidence and gaps in fundamentals.
My lessons are for high-school and CEGEP/college/university students who are studying introductory or intermediate statistics, business statistics, or quantitative methods and want clearer explanations, higher grades, or stronger problem-solving skills. They are also suitable for adult learners returning to school or professionals who need a refresher in statistics for work or further study.
