About Valerie
I qualified with the PGDE midlife after having family, my son was struggling in school being severely dyslexic. On completion of the course (2011) I didn’t take the probation year as I had alternate work in the engineering field. Parenting a child requiring more input than the school could provide and seeing that he was conceptually strong in the subject I wanted to help. I have since helped tutor both my children and worked in engineering and technical roles while bringing up family.

I’m a PGDE qualified maths tutor and have helped both my children who are neurodivergent to succeed. Dyslexia is a common concern and my tutoring can be structured to focus on their strengths as they tend to be very strong conceptually but need support breaking down barriers to accessing the questions.
I also like to focus on relating mathematics to practical problems and finding ways to engage students with its applications in the wider field.
