About Cayla

Hi! I’m a PhD student in Molecular Cell Biology with a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology. I have experience both conducting scientific research and teaching biology, and I enjoy helping students understand challenging concepts and become more confident in their coursework.

In addition to my academic coursework, I have hands-on experience in both teaching and scientific research. I have worked as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate biology courses, where I helped students understand challenging concepts, answered questions, and supported students during laboratory activities. This experience taught me how to explain complex scientific topics in different ways depending on each student's learning style.

My research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that regulate cancer and tumor cell behavior, where I apply concepts from biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology on a regular basis. This research experience has given me the opportunity to see how concepts learned in the classroom are applied to real scientific questions.

Whether you need help understanding a difficult biochemical pathway, preparing for an exam, working through practice problems, or strengthening your foundation in the subject, I will work with you to identify what you need and help you build the confidence to tackle the material independently.

My goal is not just to help you get through your next exam, but to help you actually understand the science and feel confident using what you’ve learned.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is centered around understanding rather than memorization. Biochemistry can involve a lot of complex pathways and terminology, so I break difficult concepts into smaller, manageable pieces and explain how they connect. I use diagrams, examples, practice questions, and step-by-step explanations to help students develop a strong understanding of the material.

Each lesson is personalized to the student's needs. We typically begin by identifying areas that are confusing or challenging, followed by a clear explanation of the concepts. We then work through examples and practice questions together, with opportunities for the student to apply what they’ve learned. We finish by reviewing the key takeaways and identifying areas that may need additional practice.

As a PhD student in Molecular Cell Biology, I have extensive experience with biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology. My research experience has allowed me to apply these concepts beyond the classroom, giving me a practical perspective on how biochemical processes work in real biological systems. I also understand what it feels like to encounter difficult material, and I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.

I primarily work with college and undergraduate students taking introductory or upper-level courses in biochemistry, molecular biology, and related subjects. I can help students who are looking to strengthen their understanding of course material, prepare for exams, work through challenging concepts, or develop more effective study strategies.

My goal is to help students leave each session feeling more confident, prepared, and capable of tackling biochemistry on their own.
