I have a Bachelor's and two Master's degrees in French language and culture. I enjoy teaching languages and have worked over the years to gain experience in the classroom, online, privately, and in small groups. I have more than four years of experience with developing PowerPoint presentations to practice or provide input for grammar and vocabulary. My skills include: explicit instruction; immersion; communicative learning; direction, moderation, and follow-up of group discussion and activities; as well as leading small conversation groups and tutoring 1-5 language learners at a time. I particularly like engaging in conversation/directed questions with individual students or small groups.
I have been teaching for 7 years and have also been tutoring for an additional 3 years, although, much of my other tutoring has been related to other subjects such as math, history, and argumentative writing. Several of my students, despite only enrolling in French to meet a requirement, continue on to major, minor, or participate in study abroad. When I am teaching I like to try and give my best every time, and my students (over 450 total) have remarked on evaluations that I keep them engaged and entertained. They find me to be organized, passionate, and knowledgeable. I learned languages from a set of intellectual oddballs and for better or worse their quirks have been passed on to me!
