About Pavel
I recently obtained a PhD in Computational Neuroscience at the EEE department of the University of Melbourne (UoM). Previously I have completed BSc and MSc in Solid State Physics from Moscow State University. I have more than 8 years of experience teaching various science subjects. For the past three years, I have been running tutorials in Engineering subjects for Master students at the University of Melbourne.

I prefer my lessons to be in a dialogue format: posing the questions to a student, directing attention to the blank spots in the knowledge. I encourage active enquiry, trying to bolster critical thinking. I deem critical thinking to be the most important aspect of learning: in all my subjects I am trying to instil never to be satisfied with superficial answers ("curiosity stoppers"), learn how to spot the confusion and actively confront it. I also prefer intuitive explanations of the topics, rather than presenting the facts as isolated postulates. I believe that one doesn't understand the topic if one can't explain it intuitively.
