About Matt
I'm a PhD-qualified data scientist with over a decade of experience analysing complex datasets across clinical research, healthcare, and life sciences. My PhD in Complexity Sciences from the University of Bristol gave me strong foundations in statistical and mathematical methods, and I've applied those across a wide range of real-world analytical problems since.
I've supervised postgraduate students through data analysis projects, worked with NHS clinical partners on analytical pipelines, and built data systems for research and commercial purposes. I enjoy data analysis tutoring because the problems are always different — and because helping someone make sense of their own data is genuinely satisfying.

My data analysis lessons are practical and output-focused — whether you need to clean and explore a dataset, run statistical tests, visualise results, or interpret findings for a report or dissertation. I work with students and professionals across a range of tools and contexts, including Python, R, and Excel.
I've spent over a decade analysing complex datasets in research and clinical settings, working with longitudinal patient data, imaging data, and multi-source clinical records. That applied background means I can help with real analytical problems, not just textbook exercises.
Sessions work best when you bring your own data or project — we work through it together rather than following a generic curriculum. I'm comfortable with everything from basic descriptive statistics through to machine learning applications and research methodology.
Sessions are typically one hour, online, with screen sharing for hands-on coding and analysis work.
