About Callum
I’m Callum Samuels — an engineer with a BEng in Motorsport Engineering, an MSc in Mechanical Engineering (1st Class), and a PhD in Fluid Mechanics. I genuinely enjoy teaching and seeing students feel proud when they crack problems they once found impossible.
My academic background means I’m used to breaking down difficult concepts into simple, understandable steps, and I’m patient and encouraging while students build their confidence. I’ve worked in engineering roles where Maths and Physics are applied every day, so I’m comfortable explaining both the “how” and the “why” behind topics.
I take professionalism seriously and I’m happy to arrange a DBS check if that helps reassure parents and students.

My lessons are structured, calm, and confidence-building — designed to help students understand Maths/Physics, not just memorise steps. I start by finding exactly where things go wrong (missing fundamentals, algebra slips, exam timing, tricky wording), then we build a clear method for fixing it.
How I teach
Explain in plain English first, then we practise the same idea through progressively harder exam-style questions.
I use a step-by-step problem-solving framework so students know what to do even when they feel stuck.
Lots of guided practice with quick feedback — we correct mistakes early and turn them into strengths.
Where helpful, I provide optional short homework between lessons to lock progress in.
Typical lesson length
60 minutes is usually ideal (especially GCSE).
90 minutes can work well for A-Level if students want deeper problem practice and exam technique.
Who lessons are for
GCSE Maths & Physics (Foundation or Higher)
A-Level Maths & Physics
Suitable for students who want to catch up, boost confidence, or push for top grades.
What you can expect (concrete outcomes)
Stronger confidence and less anxiety around exams
Better exam technique (showing working clearly, choosing methods quickly, avoiding common traps)
Improved problem-solving and independent study habits
Aim to raise mock results / predicted grades through targeted topic work and consistent practice
I’m happy to arrange a DBS check if preferred.
