About Sung Won

Hello! My name is Sung and I hold a PhD in Biochemistry. I bring years of real teaching experience to every lesson — including three years as a Teaching Assistant for General Biology 1 and 2, where I taught and evaluated hundreds of students, and additional years mentoring undergraduate and graduate researchers in my lab. I've seen firsthand how students get stuck, and I know how to identify the real gap in understanding and fix it, rather than just repeating the same explanation louder.
I take tutoring seriously: I show up prepared, communicate clearly, and am fully committed to your (or your child's) success — whether that means catching up after falling behind, staying ahead of a tough course, or building the confidence to tackle science and math independently. My goal in every session is the same: help you understand the material well enough to trust your own thinking, not just get through the next test.

About the lesson

Hello! I'm a PhD biochemist with three years of experience as a Teaching Assistant for General Biology 1 and 2, plus years mentoring students in my research lab.

My approach: I focus on understanding why something works before drilling formulas or memorization — that's what makes concepts stick and builds real problem-solving skill, not just short-term test prep.

A typical lesson: We start with a quick check-in on what's due or confusing, review anything shaky from last time, work through new material with guided examples, then finish with a problem or two the student solves independently while I watch for gaps. Every session ends with one clear takeaway and a short, focused task before we meet again.

What sets me apart: Most tutors know the subject — fewer have actually taught it to a room of different learners and adapted in real time. My TA and mentoring experience means I've seen every way these concepts get misunderstood, and I know how to fix the actual gap, not just re-explain the same thing louder.

Who I work with: Students from grade school to college catching up on a shaky foundation, staying on pace with coursework, or aiming to go from good to great — anyone who learns better by understanding the "why" instead of memorizing the "what."
