About Rob

I’m a PhD-trained immunologist and graduate of The University of Melbourne, with a deep love of biology and for helping others understand complex ideas with clarity and confidence.

My academic journey has focused on cellular and molecular biology, and I spent several years conducting research and engaging deeply with scientific literature, theory, and experimental design. During this time, I also mentored and supported other students, helping them strengthen their understanding of biological concepts, refine their thinking methods, build practical laboratory skills, and develop natural confidence in their abilities.

I’m known for being calm, patient, and thoughtful in the way I communicate. I understand that biology can sometimes feel overwhelming, and I enjoy helping students move from confusion to clarity in a way that feels supportive and empowering.

I genuinely enjoy teaching and find it deeply rewarding to help students not only improve their results, but also develop a more meaningful understanding of the subject.

About the lesson

Building a rapport with students is, in my opinion, fundamental to teaching. My teaching approach focuses on building deep conceptual understanding in a calm, supportive environment. Rather than relying on memorisation alone, I help students understand the underlying logic of biological systems so the material becomes more intuitive and easier to retain. I make effective use of analogies and visual demonstration, which aid in clarifying otherwise complex topics into simple, interesting ideas. Learning biology should be fun!

Lessons are tailored to each student’s needs and goals. I’m happy to help with:

- High school biology and science (including VCE)
- Undergraduate biology, biomedical science, and related subjects
- Exam preparation, assignment support, and concept clarification
- Developing scientific thinking and confidence

A typical lesson runs for 60 minutes, though I’m flexible depending on the student’s preferences.

In my experience mentoring students during my PhD, I’ve found that patience, encouragement, and clear explanation make the biggest difference. I aim to create a relaxed space where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring ideas, so they can build both competence and confidence over time.
