About Gerrit
I have been teaching German as a foreign language for over ten years. My career began at the University of Rochester in New York, where I worked as a lecturer and gained valuable experience in university-level teaching. What sets my lessons apart from conventional language courses is the combination of linguistic precision with deep expertise in political and historical contexts.
I hold a PhD from the University of British Columbia. My field of study encompasses the humanities, with a focus on media studies and cultural history. This academic background allows me to teach the German language not just as a tool for communication, but as a complex system that is closely linked to political,
historical, and social narratives.

Drawing on my background in history, politics, and media studies, I guide you through engaging, real-world discussions tailored precisely to your level, whether you are an advanced speaker refining your nuance or a beginner building day-to-day confidence. While we converse naturally on topics that interest you, I discreetly track your grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, providing you with structured, actionable feedback at the end of each session. My goal is to eliminate the fear of making mistakes and help you to express your thoughts with confidence.
