About Arghya
I am a professional mathematician with a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Maryland (US). I worked as a graduate teaching assistant for five years during my PhD in the US, and then taught for three years as a primary instructor at the National University of Singapore on a wide-ranging variety of courses in pure math.
I am currently finishing my postdoctoral position at NUS this summer before taking up a new academic appointment in Germany in September. I am offering lessons in the meantime because I genuinely enjoy teaching and helping students build confidence in mathematics. Talk to you soon!

Ciao, I am Arghya, a PhD mathematician with extensive research and teaching experience at university level! I TA-ed for five years during my PhD in the US, and then taught for three years as an instructor at the National University of Singapore across a wide range of mathematics courses.
My tutoring style is patient, structured, and adapted to the student’s background. I try to first understand where the difficulty is: sometimes the issue is a missing prerequisite, sometimes it is notation, and sometimes it is that the student has seen the definition but not enough examples.
In a typical lesson, I combine conceptual explanation with worked examples and guided problem-solving. I like to explain the “big picture” behind a topic, but I also make sure students can actually solve problems independently. For proof-based courses, I focus on how to read definitions carefully, how to recognize common proof strategies, and how to write clear mathematical arguments.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes, though 90-minute sessions can work well for advanced topics or exam preparation. I teach online and can help with undergraduate and early graduate mathematics, including calculus, linear algebra, abstract algebra, real analysis, topology, geometry, and related topics. My lessons are best suited for university students, advanced high-school students, or anyone preparing for mathematically demanding courses.
