About Jarod
I have a bachelor of science in math and economics from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse and a PhD in mathematics from the University of Kansas. I conduct research primarily in harmonic analysis, as well as math education and applied math modeling related to data science. For the last three years, I have been teaching, developing curriculum, and advising at the University of Kansas to provide STEM students with the mathematical modeling and computer programming skills necessary to succeed in STEM graduate programs and careers. My teaching, tutoring, and advising experience includes students from a very broad background. I have worked with high school students, undergraduate students of all levels, masters/PhD students (in math, computer science, engineering, chemistry, biology, psychology, and others), and researchers in math related fields. I have an expansive background in math and its applications, including many areas of pure and applied math, machine learning, biology, chemistry, engineering, and many others.

Generally speaking, my goal in when teaching or tutoring is to work myself out of a job. Mastering a particular technique is not only training in that technique, but also training in how to acquire new information. I balance providing the necessary support to understand the subject matter with training in how to master subsequent topics. I provide the support needed to become proficient in relevant techniques and understand underlying concepts. My lessons are informed by my background in the theoretic foundations and applications of math, and I emphasize how to identify and extract truly relevant and meaningful ideas from materials .
