About Shan
I am a PhD graduate in Mechanical and Materials Engineering, with extensive experience applying mathematics to advanced engineering problems such as numerical modeling and simulations. Throughout my academic journey, I have developed a strong foundation in mathematics and a clear, structured way of explaining complex concepts.
I have experience supporting students in understanding challenging topics, solving assignments, and preparing for exams. My approach is patient, professional, and tailored to each student’s needs. I focus not only on getting the correct answer, but also on helping students understand the reasoning behind it, so they can build confidence and improve independently.
Students can expect well-organized lessons, clear explanations, and a supportive learning environment. I take pride in being reliable, responsive, and committed to helping each student achieve their goals, whether it is improving grades, mastering difficult concepts, or preparing for important exams.

As a PhD graduate in Mechanical and Materials Engineering, I focus on helping students build a deep and intuitive understanding of mathematics, rather than just memorizing formulas. My teaching emphasizes clear logic, step-by-step problem solving, and connecting concepts to real applications, so students can confidently tackle exams and assignments on their own.
I adapt each lesson to the student’s level and goals. My approach typically includes:
Breaking down complex problems into simple, logical steps
Explaining underlying concepts to build long-term understanding
Guiding students through problem-solving strategies rather than giving answers directly
Reinforcing learning with targeted practice and exam-style questions
Using examples from engineering and real-world applications to make abstract math more intuitive
A typical session begins with a quick review of previous material or current difficulties. We then work through key concepts, followed by guided problem solving, where I help the student develop their own approach. I finish with practice questions and a summary of important takeaways to ensure clarity and retention.
What distinguishes me is my strong academic background and practical experience using mathematics in advanced engineering research, including numerical modeling and simulations. I understand not only how math works, but also why it matters and how it is applied, which helps students gain confidence and motivation. I am patient, structured, and focused on helping students become independent learners.
My lessons are suitable for:
High school students (Grades 9–12)
College and university students (engineering, science, or math-related programs)
Students preparing for exams or needing help with assignments
Those who want to strengthen their problem-solving skills or build a solid mathematical foundation
Whether you are struggling with basics or aiming for top performance, I will tailor the lessons to your needs and help you achieve your goals.
