About Elaine
I received my Bachelors and Masters at SMU in Psychology with a minor in Biology. I then completed my PhD in Neurobiology at Washington University in St. Louis in 1990. From there I did a postdoctoral fellowship at the Salk Institute, studying the neuroanatomical pathways underlying nicotine-induced changes in molecular expression of stress-related peptides. After that, in 2000–2007 I taught classes in Physiological Psychology, Psychology of Learning, and General Biology at Brookhaven College, SMU, and UT Southwestern Medical School. I love teaching, and often worked one-on-one with my students who were struggling with the course material. I find working with students very gratifying, and would love to continue tutoring students at any level while in retirement.

Keeping in mind the ultimate goal the student(s) requires, I shape my teaching approach to the individual needs of each student. When working with a group, I try to find common ground among the students’ knowledge base and work from there in order to reach the desired goals. I keep a positive attitude, and am very patient with students who are struggling with the material. When teaching a group, I am more than happy to spend extra time with students who are having difficulties.
