About Botros
I am a PhD researcher at the University of Cambridge (Cavendish Laboratory), specialising in experimental quantum devices. My academic training has required a deep understanding of physics and mathematics, as well as the ability to solve complex problems under pressure—skills that I bring directly into my tutoring. Students and parents can be confident that they are working with someone who operates at a high academic standard and understands what is required to achieve top results.
I take a professional and structured approach to every lesson. Sessions are well-prepared, focused, and tailored to the individual student’s needs and goals. Whether a student is aiming to improve their grades, build confidence, or prepare for competitive university admissions, I ensure that each lesson has clear objectives and measurable progress. I am reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a high standard of teaching at all times.
I also understand that effective tutoring is not just about knowledge, but about communication and trust. I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging with difficult material, while still being challenged to think independently. My goal is not only to help students succeed in exams, but to develop their confidence and ability to tackle unfamiliar problems.

My approach to tutoring is focused on building deep understanding and independent problem-solving skills rather than rote memorisation. As a PhD researcher at the University of Cambridge working on experimental quantum dot qubits, I bring a strong foundation in physics and mathematics, as well as experience tackling complex, unfamiliar problems—skills that are essential for students aiming for top grades or competitive university admissions.
**Teaching methodology:**
I structure lessons in a way similar to Cambridge supervisions. I encourage students to actively engage with problems, explain their reasoning out loud, and develop intuition step by step. Rather than simply providing answers, I guide students through the thinking process, helping them identify gaps in understanding and build confidence in approaching new questions. I adapt my teaching style depending on the student—whether they need help with core concepts, exam technique, or advanced problem-solving.
**Lesson structure and length:**
Typical lessons are 60 minutes, although I also offer 90-minute sessions for more in-depth topics or intensive preparation (e.g. exams or university interviews). Each session is focused and goal-oriented, usually combining concept review, worked examples, and challenging problems.
**Qualifications and experience:**
I am currently a second-year PhD student at the University of Cambridge (Cavendish Laboratory), specialising in experimental quantum devices. I have extensive experience in physics and mathematics at a high level, including problem-solving under pressure and explaining complex ideas clearly. My academic background allows me to support students aiming for top grades as well as those preparing for Oxbridge or other competitive university applications.
**Who my lessons are for:**
* GCSE and A-level students (Physics and Mathematics)
* Students preparing for university entrance exams or interviews (including Oxbridge)
* Motivated learners who want to go beyond the syllabus and develop strong analytical thinking skills
I aim to create a supportive but intellectually challenging environment where students are pushed to think critically and gain genuine confidence in their abilities.
