About Samiat

I'm a final year PhD researcher in Social Work and university lecturer with over ten years' experience across education, research, and professional practice. I've taught 1st, 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate seminars, marked and assessed academic work, and presented my own research at international conferences. I have also published paper in academic journal. I understand both sides of the desk, what it takes to write well as a student and learner, and what markers and examiners are actually looking for.

Outside of academia, I've spent years working directly with people within social care and government settings, which means I know how to explain things clearly, patiently, and without jargon. I take tutoring seriously, but I also know learning works best when you're not afraid to ask the "obvious" question. My goal in every session is simple, help you leave more confident than when you arrived.

About the lesson

My approach: I take a developmental approach that builds both subject understanding and writing skills. I don't believe in just handing back a page covered in red pen. I sit with you, figure out where the confusion actually is, and work through it together. We'll work through the tricky topic you just can't seem to click with. Some sessions might be about understanding the subject, building your confidence with the theory, the arguments, the "why" behind it and others may be about getting that understanding onto the page clearly.

I've spent years lecturing, marking, and doing my own doctoral research, so I know what strong subject knowledge and strong writing both look like, and I know how to help you.

Lessons: Usually an hour, but tailored to the student's level and what they're working on, whether that's exam prep, an essay draft, or a dissertation chapter.

A bit about me: I'm a PhD researcher in Social Work, a sociology graduate and university lecturer who's taught seminars, marked hundreds of essays. "I have written in academic journal papers and presented at many international conferences. I know exactly what examiners and markers are looking for at every level.

Who it's for: A-Level students strengthening exam technique and essay writing; university and postgraduate students working on essays, dissertations, or academic reports; and ESL students preparing for university-level study who want stronger academic English.

I recommend Samiat as a tutor because I’ve seen firsthand how patient and clear she is when explaining things. She has a gift for breaking down complex topics into steps that feel approachable, without ever making someone feel talked down to. She’s also creative and adaptable, so she can adjust her approach depending on how the learner thinks. And honestly, beyond her skills, she’s warm and approachable, so people feel comfortable asking questions. That’s a big deal in a learning environment
