About Charlotte

I am currently a PhD student in economics and have completed an MSc Health Economics and BSc Mathematical Economics and Statistics. Through working as a researcher at the University of Aberdeen for the last 6 years, I have developed strong quantitative skills in mathematics and economics.

Within the role as a researcher, I have also been part of teaching MSc students in Health Economics. This has involved: teaching, supervising MSc theses, creating assignments and marking.

I am flexible and happy to adjust lessons to the needs of the student on an ongoing basis.

About the lesson

I have been private tutoring for a year now with 5 students with regular weekly sessions in Nat 5 & Higher Maths/Applications of Maths. Our sessions typically include working together on large flip chart paper to answer exam questions. I focus upon building fundamental mathematical skills rather than memorising formulas. This has allowed my students the confidence in exams to give any question a go.

I believe that Maths is all about learning the basics then building confidence through depth of understanding of how the techniques they learn can solve the problem.

Maths has always played a big part in my life. My mum is a maths teacher and examiner to children aged 14+. Therefore, many nights she sat with me as a maths tutor where she pushed me to figure it out myself with gentle encouragement and reminders. Of course, memorisation is helpful, but not always when you are in a stressful situation like an exam!

Qualifications/Experience:
- I teach Economics within an MSc module at the University of Aberdeen
- I have supervised 7 MSc thesis students.
- 2019 - present. Researcher in health economics at the University of Aberdeen where I use mathematical methods to analyse data from clinical trials.
- Current PhD Health economics student in the effectiveness of AI in Breast screening.
- MSc Health Economics (University of York)
- BSc Mathematical Economics and Statistics (University of Birmingham)
-School grades: AAA A-level, 7A* 4A GCSE
