About Behrad

I am a PhD student in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Sydney, with a background in Materials Science and Engineering from EPFL. I have always had a strong interest in Physics and Mathematics, and I studied in a specialized high school focused on physics olympiad training, where I was exposed to advanced concepts from an early stage.

I would describe myself as analytical, detail oriented, and straightforward in my approach, while also being patient and empathetic with students. I take my work seriously, but I aim to create a comfortable environment where students feel confident asking questions and making mistakes.

Although I have always been strong in Physics and Mathematics, Chemistry was a subject that only truly made sense to me after I understood the fundamentals. This experience shaped how I teach today because I know how important it is to build a solid foundation rather than rely on memorization.

I am starting tutoring primarily as a way to support myself during my PhD, but I genuinely enjoy helping students understand difficult concepts. Teaching also helps me deepen my understanding, and I strongly believe that if you can explain something clearly, then you truly understand it.

I feel most satisfied as a tutor when I see that a student not only improves their results but also gains confidence and begins to understand the logic behind what they are learning.

I approach tutoring with a strong focus on understanding rather than memorization. As a PhD student working with complex scientific systems, I have learned that most difficulties in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry come from gaps in fundamental concepts. My goal is to identify those gaps and rebuild a clear and logical understanding step by step.

In my lessons, I usually start by assessing the student’s current level and the specific challenges they are facing. I then explain concepts in a simple and intuitive way, often using real-world examples or visual reasoning, before moving to exam-style problems. I place a strong emphasis on how to think through problems, not just how to solve them.

For HSC students, I focus on both deep understanding and exam preparation, including question patterns, time management, and common mistakes. For university students, I help connect theory with practical problem-solving, assignments, and mathematical reasoning where needed.

A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, but I adapt the structure depending on the student’s needs and goals. I also provide guidance on how to study independently between sessions, which is often the key to long-term improvement.

I have previous experience teaching high school and first-year university students in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, and I genuinely enjoy helping students gain confidence in subjects that often feel difficult at first.

My lessons are suitable for Year 11–12 students (HSC) and university students who want to improve their understanding, performance, and confidence in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
