About Sherry
Hello everyone! My name is Sherry. I graduated from Beijing Language University with a PhD in Classical Chinese Literature and have over ten years of experience teaching Chinese in both China and the USA. I've been involved in various Chinese teaching programs, including Harvard's Beijing Academy, Columbia University's Beijing Project, and Peking University's American University Project. I teach modern Mandarin and classical Chinese, and I have a long-standing interest in Chinese language and culture research.
I welcome students of all levels, from children and complete beginners to intermediate and advanced learners. Whether you want to learn everyday conversation, improve your Mandarin pronunciation and tones, strengthen your grammar, reading, and writing skills, or dive deep into classical Chinese and Chinese culture, I will design a course tailored to your level, interests, and learning goals.
My teaching style is patient, clear, and organized, and I adapt flexibly to each student's unique characteristics. I aim to help you truly understand Chinese, build your confidence in learning, and enjoy the process of learning the language.
No matter if you're learning Chinese for life, travel, work, study, exams, or personal interest, you're very welcome in my class!
With over ten years of teaching experience, I've taught modern and classical Chinese at several universities and international Chinese programs in both China and the USA, including Harvard's Beijing Academy, Columbia University's Beijing Project, Peking University's American University Project, Beijing Language University, and Rutgers University.
I graduated from Beijing Language University with a PhD in Classical Chinese Literature. My areas of expertise include Mandarin, Chinese phonetics, characters, classical Chinese, and historical linguistics of Chinese. I have also served as an examiner and scorer for the Mandarin proficiency test.
My courses are tailored to each student's level and goals. For beginners, I teach pinyin, tones, vocabulary, grammar, and everyday conversation step by step; for intermediate learners, I help you improve your speaking fluency, listening skills, vocabulary, and natural expression; for advanced learners, I can provide deeper reading, writing, phonetics, linguistics, classical Chinese, and traditional literature studies.
My goal is to help students truly understand Chinese in a clear, practical, and fun way, while making steady progress.
Feel free to book a trial lesson with me! We can discuss your Chinese level, learning goals, and interests, and create a personalized study plan just for you.
Whether you're learning Chinese for the first time or have already reached an intermediate or advanced level, I will provide clear explanations, targeted practice, and personalized guidance based on your needs.
You can work with me to improve your Mandarin pronunciation and tones, enhance your speaking skills, boost your reading and writing abilities, or delve into the language, culture, and classical Chinese.
I look forward to seeing you in class, where we can learn Chinese easily and effectively together!
