About Paris
I hold a first class BA (Hons) and a first class MPhilStud (research Master's) in philosophy. Over the past five years, I have hosted numerous group lessons open to a wide audience on classical Greek and modern Western/European thought. In addition to this, I tutor privately both one-to-one and in small groups on all the major philosophical subjects, covering both analytic and continental approaches. I have assisted a considerable number of students over this period, all of which have attained success in their various endeavours.

I am a dedicated and experienced philosophy tutor, eager to give lessons to anyone who is in need of them, from a newcomer up to the Master's level and beyond. My students are of differing ages and stages of proficiency, so I have plenty of experience teaching at both an elementary and advanced level. I consider myself a friendly, adaptable, and patient teacher, concerned above all else with the all-round development of my students' capacity for comprehensive thought. I have a strong belief in the unification of knowledge and am always striving to incorporate seemingly disparate branches of learning into a broader horizon in order to provide my students with a sufficiently complete picture. My teaching methods vary, but as a rule I start with an in-depth account of the subject, taking care to ground it contextually, and then proceed to a discussion of the main points. Whether the lessons take more of a dialogical form or the more typical lecture type format depends on the needs and preferences of the student(s). In either case, I try to start from basic intuitions and then gradually move to the application of these abstract insights to more complex cases. The aim is to facilitate the development of a rich and nuanced understanding of the subject by cutting to the fundamentals, this forms the general focus. Philosophy has its own intrinsic logic making it possible for the respective branches of the subject (epistemology, ethics, politics, etc.) to be rendered thoroughly comprehensible when this fact is sufficiently brought to light. In this way students learn to range quite competently over an otherwise bewildering array of material. To teach philosophy is to teach a way of thinking that is genuinely transformative. I strive to convey the subject in a way that allows this dimension to come alive for others. In addition to the above, I also offer advice on essay writing and on structuring strong philosophical arguments. This goes hand in hand with an understanding of philosophy: to think the subject is to practise it.
