About Jamie

Hello there! My name is Jamie; I am the recent holder (as of April 2023) of a DPhil (PhD) in Politics (Political Theory) at the University of Oxford. I am a graduate of the MPhil. in Politics at Oxford and the MSc Political Theory at the London School of Economics. I have experience of teaching one-on-one and groups working towards their GCSE and AS levels, but I am also confident working with undergraduate/postgraduate students. My tutoring philosophy is to allow the student to appreciate the fact that they are probably better than they think, that their ideas are most probably better than what they are currently putting on the page. The humanities are primarily concerned with offering an original interpretation or insight into a familiar text, demonstrating it clearly for the purpose of providing readers with a fresh perspective. I can appreciate that humanities subject can be harder than a student initially realises, as for all the quotes, dates, or ideas they might have to remember, it still requires strong essay-writing technique, exam discipline, and most importantly, the student has to have an opinion on the matter! Political philosophy/political theory is my speciality.

About the lesson

I am a published political theorist, writer, tutor and researcher living in London. I hold a PhD (DPhil) holder in Politics (Theory) from the University of Oxford, and have taught at Oxford and University College London as a Senior Postgraduate Teaching Assistant.
