I look at a major thinker at a time and provide insights into their work and critiques of their views.
Major thinkers are generally from the Western tradition: Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Bonaventure, Aquinas, Descartes, Hobbes, Rousseau, Madison, Marx, Freud and several others.
This is done in a systematic approach: intro to the thinker, major works and contributions to philosophy, truths contained in the works, critiques of the works, then questions based off of teaching to help retain the information.
