About Patrick
As a mechanical engineering student, I have a good base in mathematics and the physical sciences. Before tackling any problem, I believe it is important to look at the general context, recall fundamental laws, and make a qualitative estimation. I look at equations not just as "plug and chug", but relationships that define a set of possibile outcomes (examining proportional relationships, mathematical operands, and graphical analysis) that can often solve the problem by first hand analysis.

I like an experimental approach to tutoring. I often let the student take a step back and look at the fundamentals to suggest their best strategy and reasonable estimatation to a problem. For example, to solve a challenging math problem, retreating to the most basic rules and patterns of the lesson can be beneficial to approach the situation differently. Understanding the core of a subject can be a helpful way to tackle any complex problem by estimating the range of the solution and the proper way of solving. Drawing diagrams, chunking, and re-evaluting can also be useful strategies. The student will test their strategies and I will be there for guidance and advice. Most of the time the student already has the answer! I believe in a comfortable, relaxed, and fun enviroment for learning wherever the student needs to meet (library, home, cafe, or public location).
