About Nico
I am currently a second year undergraduate student at Lancaster university studying Theoretical Physics with Maths. Throughout my time at College and University, I have always been interested in problem solving and seeing how Maths can be applied to Physics to solve real world problems. I am passionate about teaching Maths and Physics, but also about the way it is taught, so that students can understand the importance of the results that they are learning and understand the links between different topics. I hope to be able to demonstrate this in my teaching, so that even if the student doesn't wish to pursue the subject in the future, they can at least appreciate its importance and thus not feel as though they are doing a pointless activity.

My typical approach to teaching is to engage the students as much as possible. Particularly with problem solving, I feel that the best way for students to learn is to try a variety of different problems, phrased differently (as they will be in an exam) so that they can become familiar with thinking for themselves and understanding what a question is asking. It is sometimes easy to explain how to apply a method to solve a particular problem, and have them learn this method by rote, but I think it is important that the student also understands why the method works, and how that same method could be applied to other (possibly multistep) problems. Typically I would tutor from between 45 minutes to an hour, which I think is enough time to cover the basics of a particular topic and go through some questions, but not too long so the student doesn't lose interest. I achieved A*s in Maths and Physics at A level and I am currently a Maths and Physics undergraduate at Lancaster university. I have tutored a few family members and friends in Maths and Physics for their GCSE exams, though I am happy to tutor in Maths and Physics for anyone at either GCSE level or A level.
