About Finn
I'm from New Zealand/Belgium and did my master’s in quantum physics at ETH Zurich, the highest ranked university in Europe. I also double majored in maths and physics in my bachelor’s degree, at the University of Melbourne and UC Berkeley. My experience at top universities across three continents has allowed me to learn various approaches to a science education. From this, I have been able to take elements that are conducive to an active learning outlook and incorporate them into my lessons.
My academic background includes three years of experience in theoretical physics research including publications in Physical Review A and Physics Letters A, two prestigious physics journals. My research has been in several fields: condensed matter theory, relativistic atomic structure and quantum machine learning. I am thus working at the cutting edge of physics research and am constantly in contact with developments in a broad array of topics in physics, maths, and chemistry.

I have been tutoring for several years now, having led physics and maths classes for undergraduates at ETH Zurich, the University of Melbourne, as well as privately for students of the International Baccalaureate programme. In my experience, the main issue keeping students from a clear understanding of material in STEM subjects is fear and a lack of confidence. We can push through that fear with a priority on developing the student’s intuition for the subject to a deep level. I want all my students to understand the inner mechanisms behind principles, around which we can develop skills in scientific problem-solving. For students open to putting in the required work, I can offer not only a tailored guide to excellence in their studies, but also show them how scientists think which will be extremely useful in any path they choose for the future.
