About Tom
As a classroom teacher I believe every student is capable of much higher grades once the subject is explained in a clear and logical way. A different explanation, a structured approach to problems, or targeted practice can quickly unlock topics that previously felt confusing.
I am regularly contracted to mark national science examinations, which gives me direct insight into how examiners award marks and where students most often lose them.
My goal is to help students see science as something that can be worked through step-by-step rather than something mysterious or intimidating. Sessions focus on clarity, confidence, and giving students practical strategies they can use immediately in their exams.

About my lessons
I am a secondary school science teacher specialising in Physics, with experience teaching GCSE Combined Science, Triple Science, and A-level Physics. My lessons are structured, clear, and focused on helping students understand the ideas behind the equations and how to apply them correctly.
Since students are provided with equation sheets in GCSE exams, the key skill is learning how to interpret a problem, choose the correct equation, and apply it confidently. I focus heavily on developing this problem-solving approach so students can break down unfamiliar questions and methodically work towards the answer.
Sessions are tailored to the student’s goals. This might include strengthening understanding of challenging topics, improving calculation skills, developing exam technique, or preparing for mocks and final exams. I frequently use past-paper questions and exam-style problems so students become familiar with the way exam boards award marks.
I place strong emphasis on explaining concepts in a clear and logical way. When the underlying ideas make sense, the maths and application become far more manageable. Students are encouraged to ask questions, talk through their reasoning, and build confidence tackling more complex problems.
Lessons are suitable for students who want to:
strengthen their understanding of GCSE science
improve grades through exam practice and technique
develop confidence with calculations and problem solving
prepare for A-level Physics assessments
Each session is adapted to the student’s pace and needs, whether they need long-term support or focused revision before exams.
