About Will

As a passionate physics and mathematics student at Pitzer College, I’m eager to share my love for these subjects with students of all levels. My journey in STEM began early, nurtured at Cate School, a boarding school in Southern California, where I honed my analytical skills and problem-solving abilities. With a patient and engaging teaching style, I specialize in breaking down complex concepts into digestible parts, making learning both accessible and enjoyable. My tutoring experience includes helping classmates master challenging topics, mentoring younger students in math and science clubs, being a teaching assistant for underclassman classes during my senior year, and watching my mother and father teach while growing up. I believe in fostering a growth mindset, encouraging students to embrace challenges as opportunities for learning and development. When I’m not immersed in equations or scientific theories, you’ll find me catching waves, scaling boulders in competitive climbing events, or expressing my creative side through music on guitar and drums. These diverse interests fuel my enthusiasm for learning and teaching, allowing me to connect with students on multiple levels and bring fresh perspectives to our sessions. My teaching experience includes peer tutoring, where I’ve helped classmates master challenging topics in physics and mathematics. I’ve also mentored younger students in math and science clubs, fostering their interest in STEM subjects. As a senior, I served as a teaching assistant for underclassman physics classes, where I co-taught a year-long course of 20 students. While I don’t hold formal teaching certifications yet, I’m currently pursuing my degree in Physics at Pitzer College, which has provided me with a strong foundation in the subject. My coursework includes advanced mathematics and various physics disciplines, equipping me with comprehensive subject expertise. Growing up with educator parents has given me valuable insights into effective teaching practices, which I incorporate into my tutoring approach.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology centers on fostering a growth mindset. I encourage students to view challenges as opportunities for learning and development. I also employ inquiry-based learning techniques, guiding students to discover concepts through hands-on experiments and problem-solving exercises. My subject expertise lies primarily in physics and mathematics, including topics such as classical mechanics and calculus, however, I have a strong base in all of the prerequisite math classes as well. I’m also proficient in using educational technology to enhance learning experiences.
