About Peter
I have tutored programming to elementary, middle school, high school, and college students and graduate students over the past 3 years (C,C++,Java, python,C#). I have taught, approximately, 1 elementary student, 2 middle school students, 1 high school student, and many college students. My students generally obtain significantly higher grades through my help.
Lately I have tutored data structures in C, C++, Java, and python. I have helped with C systems programming in a OS class for linux. I have also recently tutored javascript, php, html5, cs3, and SQL. My HS student has learned some Java Swing and JavaFX. Currently he is learning C# with asp.net and windows forms.
I have some experience also tutoring Java EE for an academic CS course.

Learning programming languages requires primarily programming. Programming is a subset of problem solving. Programming requires knowledge of the programming language, logic, math (often), and creative problem solving. Concepts are explained clearly if there is a need. Otherwise, practice is the focus. Active learning is best in any subject. The student and I should actively work together to achieve the student's understanding of the language and methods of programming.

Good! Yes, he was very helpful, and considering this was our first session - getting to know each other - understanding what I knew (and didn't), it was very useful.
- Our first class went well. Ian is very knowledgeable with programming languages. Once I pointed him in the right direction, he may be finished with any need for further help.Peter's response :
