About Anthony
I have a PhD in Physics and I’m a postdoctoral researcher at a UK university, working in theoretical physics. Teaching has always been a big part of my work: I taught over 100 hours of university classes during my PhD (including a big part of tutorials), and I teach at a UK university alongside my research. I’ve also tutored maths and physics privately since I was a student myself.

I teach A-level Maths and Physics online, one to one. Many students can follow a method but freeze when a question looks unfamiliar. In my lessons we focus on understanding why the methods work, so that you can handle unfamiliar questions with confidence instead of relying on memorised steps. I like to adapt the lessons to focus especially on the difficulties you may have at the moment so that we can overcome them together. This is what raises grades and removes exam stress. I am not making any judgements as wherever you are in your learning journey, there are always new things to learn and new difficulties to face. As a reasearcher I understand that very well, since I often have to tackle new problems.
What we can work on:
- A-level Maths and Physics: catching up on difficult topics, building confidence, exam technique, and working through past papers.
- University Physics and the maths behind it: first-year and later undergraduate topics such as mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics and mathematical methods. This is also useful if you’re about to start university and want a head start.
- Admissions tests: I can also help with preparation for tests such as the ESAT.
- Adults returning to study or changing career who need to refresh their maths and physics.
How it works:
Your first lesson is free. We’ll talk about where you are and what you’re aiming for, try a few problems together, and see whether we work well together before you commit. After that, every session is adapted to your goals, whether that’s an exam date, a specific grade, or simply understanding the subject properly.
I’m a native French speaker, so I’m happy to teach in French if that’s easier for you.

I met Anthony in 2025 at a French language conversation group organised by the university of Plymouth.
Anthony and I struck it off early on talking about one of his lifetime passions: physics. I told him I was keen to learn more about fundamental physics with a focus on electricity and this was all the motivation Anthony needed to suggest we meet for regular lessons. We have been getting together for regular physics and maths sessions every Friday evening since then (January 2026).
Anthony is a very competent teacher; so far in our weekly lessons he has provided me with a better understanding of fundamental physics and the mathematical tools I would need to advance my knowledge. We covered material in quadratic equations, calculus, complex numbers, dynamics and the conservation of energy in the first half of 2026. The sessions are enjoyable and thoroughly engaging; Anthony doesn't just explain apparently difficult concepts very well, he will get me to think through exercises to understand why things work. We have resolved proofs together and revealed identities that would otherwise just be useful mysteries to me. His approach of boiling down ideas and building my knowledge from the ground up has given me a real appreciation for mathematical theory and pushed my curiosity further. Behind the teaching method, there is also vast subject knowledge; Anthony is able to think up exercises and questions on the spot to check my understanding through our lessons.
Anthony also pays attention to the details - no stone is left unturned: he will examine and correct my use of notation in solved exercises, check my understanding at points by asking pertinent questions or drop timely hints when I'm struggling, rather than providing the solution outright.
As a person, I would describe Anthony as bright, caring and patient; in our conversations, he keeps an open mind, takes time to listen and considers his thoughts carefully before answering.
Altogether I would highly recommend Anthony as a teacher for anyone who needs a helping hand in either maths or physics and is ready to bring curiosity to the table.View more recommendations
