I focus on the importance of developing a problem solving strategy and conceptually understanding each topic. I have them walk me through how they solved the problem, why they solved it the way they did, and what’s the physical significance of their result.I keep students involved during lecture by asking them questions, asking for volunteers to solve a problem, or showing demonstrations and visual representations exhibiting the topic of discussion. I use relatable everyday examples to introduce concepts, and assign homework problems based on their interests. Many of the problems I assign to pre- med/biology students are potential MCAT questions, and each solution requires a maximum of two equations. Rather than testing their mathematical abilities, I focus on teaching them simple physical concepts and to develop an intuitive feel about the physical world around them.
I am an astrophysicist with an interest in high energy physics. I have taught university level physics at a large public university and a private liberal arts institution. I enjoy teaching students how to conceptualize and mathematically describe the physical world around us.
