About Jon

About me and my background: I am a final-year Physics student with seven years of experience tutoring secondary and high school students. Throughout this time, I have supported numerous students, giving me a broad and realistic understanding of the most common difficulties in science subjects and how to successfully address them. My passion for teaching: I have always believed in the value of collaborative learning. From my own school days, I enjoyed helping and explaining concepts to my classmates, just as others helped me. The exact sciences are fascinating fields, but I am very aware that they can be complex and frustrating. My goal is to break down that barrier: I want to help students understand the subject matter step by step, so they stop seeing it as a problem and can even come to enjoy it. My characteristics as a teacher: Empathy and personalized attention: Having recently walked the same academic path as my students, I fully understand what they are going through and where they typically get stuck. This allows me to sharpen my focus and adapt the class to each student's needs. Consistency and the ability to synthesize: I consider myself a methodical teacher. I excel at simplifying complex concepts, translating what might seem like abstract ideas into real-life examples to facilitate understanding. Discovery learning: I don't see classes as monologues where I simply explain. I approach them as active and dynamic conversations where I guide students through reasoning so they can deduce and discover the answers themselves. This methodology greatly fosters autonomy, knowledge retention, and student confidence in exams.

Teaching Methodology and Techniques: My method focuses on building a solid and highly visual theoretical foundation. I'm aware that in a classroom with other students, it's easy to get distracted or lose track of the material. That's why I like to review the theory, starting from scratch if time allows, to ensure everyone understands what's being discussed. I also make extensive use of diagrams. Disciplines like mathematics or physics can be very abstract, and visualizing the problem greatly helps in understanding the "why" of things in a more practical way. Typical Class Structure: The class program is divided into two main phases: - Theory and Understanding: First, we review the theory, building upon what the student has already learned in high school and reinforcing the foundation. - Practice and Preparation: The second half is purely practical. We focus on doing exercises and working with an exam-oriented approach, which is essential for mastering science subjects. I like to encourage participation at all times. It's important to listen to the student, understand their perspective on the subject, and see how they approach problems. Each person visualizes knowledge differently; my goal is to understand their mental framework in order to adapt my explanations and address precisely the areas they find most challenging. Who are my classes for? My classes are designed for secondary and high school students who need support, reinforcement, or exam preparation in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
