I believe math is best learned through a clear, step-by-step process that builds both understanding and confidence. My approach combines:
Diagnostic Start – I begin by identifying the student’s current skill level and pinpointing gaps.
Concrete → Pictorial → Abstract – Moving from real-life examples and visuals to symbolic math, so concepts stick.
Scaffolded Learning – Breaking complex problems into smaller, manageable parts, then building up.
Socratic Questioning – Guiding students to discover solutions through strategic questions rather than just giving answers.
Error Analysis – Reviewing and correcting mistakes together to prevent repeated misunderstandings.
Interleaved & Spiral Review – Revisiting past topics regularly so knowledge isn’t lost as new material is introduced.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Duration: 60 minutes (adaptable to student needs)
Warm-Up (5 min)
Quick review problems to refresh prior concepts and activate focus.
Concept Introduction (10–15 min)
Present the new topic with clear explanations and relatable examples.
Guided Practice (15–20 min)
Work through problems together, encouraging the student to lead while I provide hints and feedback.
Independent Practice (10–15 min)
Student solves problems on their own to build confidence and mastery.
Wrap-Up & Review (5 min)
Summarize key points and assign short, targeted practice for retention.
What sets me apart:
Confidence-building focus — I work to turn “I can’t do math” into “I’ve got this.”
Error-friendly environment where mistakes are treated as learning tools, not failures.
Structured progression — every lesson builds logically on the last, with regular review so nothing is forgotten.
