I give lessons to a students from the age of 7 to graduation of high school.
During a lesson, we will review last week's assignment and then have a music theory session. When those are done we will sight read and troubleshoot any problems we run into. My teaching style is demonstrative. I will have the student sight read and if they need me to, I will play the piece on the piano or other instrument for them to see.
