About Maya
I discovered my love for piano at a young age, which led me to pursue a B.Mus in Piano Performance and an M.Mus in Music Education. Over 7 years, I have taught students of all ages, focusing on technique, musical expression, and performance skills. My approach blends structured technical exercises with expressive exploration and performance preparation to nurture both skill and artistry.
I provide individualised, interactive lessons that balance technical skill, repertoire study, improvisation, and ensemble performance. I create a supportive environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and confident musical expression. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s abilities, interests, and goals, ensuring steady progress and mastery.
Outside teaching, I perform, collaborate with other musicians, and explore a wide range of musical styles. Bringing real-world performance experience into lessons inspires and motivates students. Watching learners grow in skill, confidence, and expressiveness is deeply rewarding. Supporting their artistic and personal development as pianists remains the most fulfilling aspect of my career.

Piano lessons are most effective when students build technical skill alongside musical understanding. My lessons focus on finger independence, reading fluency, rhythm, articulation, dynamics, phrasing, and expressive interpretation. Students explore classical, jazz, and contemporary repertoire, learning both solo and ensemble performance skills. Lessons integrate structured exercises, creative improvisation, and duet practice to enhance skill, confidence, and musicality, fostering both technical mastery and expressive artistry.
Lesson plans are customised to the student’s level and goals. Beginners focus on posture, basic hand coordination, simple melodies, and rhythm patterns. Intermediate learners refine scales, phrasing, articulation, sight-reading, and expressive techniques. Advanced learners work on complex repertoire, improvisation, performance readiness, and ensemble collaboration. Feedback, exercises, and goal-oriented practice strategies are integrated to ensure continual growth.
Piano lessons also encourage discipline, patience, and artistic self-expression. Students gain the confidence to perform, interpret music with emotional depth, and appreciate music as a language of expression. My goal is to help learners achieve technical mastery, expressive fluency, and a lifelong connection to music.
