About Nelson
I started playing piano when I was 6, and later attended Berklee College of Music. I've been teaching piano for over 10 years, and playing professionally at spots like the Chateau Marmont since 2018. What I care about most is working with students who genuinely love music and want to chase that indescribable feeling of creating it. Whether you're just starting out or looking to level up, I keep things relaxed, supportive, and focused on real progress.

I focus on giving students a practical musical vocabulary rather than teaching piano through memorizing individual songs note-by-note. Most traditional piano instruction has students learn one piece at a time, which can take a long time to produce independent musicians. Instead, I teach piano the way many guitar players learn — through chords, chord shapes, and harmonic patterns that transfer across any song or style. Once you know the "language," you can apply it to whatever music you want to play, rather than starting from scratch every time.
This approach is built for quick, practical progress. You'll learn to recognize and play chord structures, understand how they move and connect (chord progressions), and apply that knowledge in real time — so you can sit down and play music you like almost immediately, rather than waiting months to complete a single song.
