About Kjel

Who am I? My name is Kjel. Originally from Saskatchewan, I've just finished a master's in music centered on composition and sound design, and as of three years I am the organist at l'église Saint-Édouard. You can find my recorded work by searching my name on Bandcamp.

Qui suis-je? Je m'appelle Kjel. Originaire de la Saskatchewan, je viens de terminer une maîtrise en musique à l'Université de Montréal, et depuis trois ans maintenant je suis l'organiste titulaire de l'église Saint-Édouard. Vous trouverez mes travaux enregistrés en cherchant mon nom sur Bandcamp.

About the lesson

If you are looking to delve into the musical arts, whether it be through the piano, the guitar, the flute, electronics, or composition, I would like to hear from you. I’ve been fascinated by this world all my life and I welcome the opportunity to impart some of what I’ve learned.

As for my teaching philosophy, I believe in a self-directed approach. This means that I take care to listen to my students’ needs/passion and structure their lessons around that. I find that people are much more likely to become immersed in a subject if they are following their motivation rather than fighting it. This naturally creates a learning path that is non-linear, but very rewarding. I aim to be simply a resource and a guide; providing clarity and focus to the chaos of art.

Si vous cherchez à vous plonger dans les arts musicaux, que ce soit par le biais du piano, de la guitare, de la flûte, de l'électronique ou de la composition, j'aimerais avoir de vos nouvelles. J'ai été fasciné par ce monde toute ma vie et je suis heureux d'avoir l'occasion de transmettre une partie de ce que j'ai appris.

En ce qui concerne ma philosophie d'enseignement, je crois en une approche autodirigée. Cela signifie que je prends soin d'écouter les besoins et la passion de mes étudiants et que je structure les leçons en fonction de cela. Je trouve que les gens ont beaucoup plus de chances de s'immerger dans un sujet s'ils suivent leur motivation plutôt que de la combattre. Cela crée naturellement un parcours d'apprentissage non linéaire, mais très enrichissant. Mon but est d'être simplement une ressource et un guide, en apportant de la clarté dans le chaos de l'art.

Our son has been taking piano lessons for several years, and Kjel has been his teacher for a year now, and the match worked immediately. Kjel allows him to express all his sensitivity through music. They choose the pieces together, and Kjel adapts them to accompany his learning. He knows how to listen while setting a framework but without being rigid. I can only recommend him :)
