About Ivy
I’m a piano tutor with over 8 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano Performance. My passion is teaching pianists how to become strong and sensitive accompanists across a wide range of settings. I specialize in working with vocalists, instrumentalists, and choirs, helping students learn how to support, follow, and enhance other performers. My lessons focus on reading lead sheets, transposing on the fly, and developing rhythmic sensitivity. We also explore how to adapt to different musical styles—from jazz and gospel to pop and classical crossover. I teach how to listen actively, anticipate phrasing, and provide a steady, musical foundation in any ensemble. I work with both school students and adult/professional accompanists, tailoring each lesson to the learner’s goals and context. Whether you’re a Beginner or working at a Professional level, I provide step-by-step guidance to build skill, confidence, and musical awareness. I create a relaxed, focused space where students can grow at their own pace. Accompanying is a craft that blends skill, timing, and empathy—and I love helping students master it. Let’s unlock the art of musical partnership and make music that feels truly connected.

My piano teaching approach is designed to build strong music reading skills through clear and consistent practice. I focus on sight-reading exercises, speed reading techniques, and identifying intervals quickly on the staff. Each lesson includes targeted drills to strengthen the connection between what you see and what your fingers play. We also work on rhythmic accuracy, helping you stay steady and confident through new pieces.
I take a systematic approach that works well for both The Child Prodigy and The Hobbyist Adult. Lessons are structured but flexible, always adjusted to your learning pace. I use fun, engaging materials to keep practice interesting and effective. We break down music into easy-to-read patterns and rhythms.
Over time, you'll notice your reading becomes smoother and more natural. I support students with feedback that builds confidence and encourages steady progress. My goal is to help you open any sheet of music and play with ease. With the right practice, you’ll be sight-reading with skill and joy.
