Hello! My name is Brendan Medoro. I just finished pitching in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) for the Spire City Ghost Hounds. I was the youngest pitcher on the team (23 years old) ,and I also pitched for Fairleigh Dickinson University (Division I) earlier this year.

I graduated from Park Vista Community High School in 2018 after playing 2 years of JV and 2 years of varsity baseball. I was actually cut from the team the Fall of my Freshman year (after being cut every year of Middle School at CMMS), so I have extensive West Boynton Little League experience and a permanent chip on my shoulder. Anyway, my Senior year I received a pitcher of the year award, and I received the Cobra Award my Freshman through Junior Year. The coaches gave the Cobra Award to a player who best demonstrated the values of the team.

I committed to Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) in March of my Senior year. FDU is a Division I university located in Teaneck, New Jersey (maybe you know some historic college basketball upsets). I led the team in innings pitched my Freshman year, and I earned an athletic scholarship. I finished my last season of eligibility this year and left FDU with 255 innings pitched and 2 pitching records:
Most wins in a season: 9, 9-0 record in 2023
Most wins in program history: 20.

I have pitched in just about every role imaginable at all levels of my career:
Starter, reliever, closer, long relief, mop up, 4 inning saves...you name it.

About the lesson

A pitching lesson starts with goal setting. We will set a goal for the session and discuss progress towards other long term goals.

Next, we will work on a mental skill. Learning simple breathing techniques and practicing mindfulness can help you in tough situations on the mound and stay focused in the game or in training.

Now that the mind is warmed up, we move to the physical warm up. This includes static and dynamic stretches as well as a J-band routine.

Then, we throw. All fastball on the way out with an emphasis on command (arm side and glove side fastballs).
At the maximum distance, focus shifts to throwing intensity (moving closer and throwing harder).
Once we get back to between 75 and 60 feet, we will work on developing secondary pitches (changeups, sliders, curveballs, splitters... take your pick).

After throwing all of your pitches, we will end throwing with a flatground or bullpen session. There will be a goal for the session or it will be simulated game situations.

We conclude with some combination of armcare, strength, conditioning, or mobility work that can also be worked on at home.
